In 2026, the skyline of Pyongyang has changed significantly. The neon lights of the new high-rise apartments reflect beautifully on the Taedong River, creating a scene that looks surprisingly modern. However, if you move just a few blocks away from the main district, you’ll find the "real" night of the people. It’s a place where the streetlights are dim, and the stars in the sky shine brighter than the city lights.
This is where the true "Injung-yadam" (warm human stories) happens. In neighborhoods with frequent power shortages, you’ll see soft candlelights flickering through the windows of old apartment buildings. Families gather around these small lights to share a late-night snack of "Injo-gogi-bap" or to help children with their homework. It’s not a scene of misery, but one of resilience and intimacy.
